Sacha was busy in the garden ... and something odd happened.

Unknown tulip strain ... the "Happy Accident", 2009.

We're not sure what happened, but we think we had a cross-breeding of our Lily-flowered "Red Elegans" tulip with our "Gele Prins" (yellow prince) tulip and a case of tulip virus that gave us this interesting, broken-pattern, red & yellow tulip!

We know for certain we did not purchase these tulip bulbs, but we did replant the pots last fall with all the heirloom bulbs we had before. Only the tulip gods and the bumble-bees know how this came to be. ;o)
"Happy Accident" full view, 2009.

The resulting tulip is clearly a cross-breed that caught the tulip virus which is actually a good thing, in this case. You can see the original heirloom tulips we planted in these pots, in this post :

Going to try to save the "Happy Accident" bulbs for replanting in the fall. They are a bit small in size, but they look healthy and they're not "mushy". Oh, we're not tulip experts by any means..... so, we'll see.

And this is Sacha with her garden soil and pots... making decisions.
Maybe she has the secret? If she does, she isn't telling.
Another of our favorites, the Rembrandt "Insulinde".
Rembrandt tulip "Insulinde", 2009.

The "Insulinde" tulips did wonderfully well again this year - this is the third year for these bulbs. We hope to get some more of them in the fall - special order. Love them; want a whole bunch of them!

A new addtion to the garden is Sacha's neighborhhod friend. We don't know the name of this cat, but we call it "Friendly Kitty" ( not even sure if it's a he or a she).
Sacha allows "Friendly Kitty" to sit in the garden, 2009.

That's about as far as Sacha will allow any cat in the garden ... lol.
Friendly Kitty did sneak into the house one day, but Sacha didn't see it happen. Lucky for Friendly Kitty, because Princess Sacha is very protective of her house & garden. Oy!

Of course, the tulips are all long gone now and other things are growing in the garden. We'll post those pics another time.

tot ziens,
Judy ( and Sacha)

Spammers - stop trying to comment, it's useless.

"Children's Games"
Pieter Bruegel the Elder
Oil on oak panel , 118 x 161 cm
Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien - Vienna, Austria

We don't post to this blog for a few weeks and the spammers think that they can post comments here.

Well, it's an exercise in futility because your comments don't get accepted so they won't show up on this blog - you bloody fools.

Ga weg! ( go away!)

We thought the painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder was appropriate for this post ... for obvious reasons.
